Study in South Korea

South Korea's relevance runs along two lines. Incheon is one of Asia's principal international transfer hubs, supporting a substantial airport and aviation-services sector. And inbound tourism has grown strongly on the back of Korean cultural exports, driving demand across Seoul hotels, food and beverage, retail-adjacent hospitality and visitor services.

For students, that combination means exposure to two quite different environments — high-throughput aviation operations on one side, and a fast-moving urban hospitality and tourism economy on the other.

Programme types typically span hospitality and hotel management, tourism and visitor services, airport and aviation services, and Korean language study. As in Japan, language study is often built into the pathway rather than treated as separate.

The institutions and exact programme titles available in South Korea at any given intake are confirmed during counselling, so you get the current list rather than one that may have moved on by the time you read it.

Hotel, tourism and airport-services placements are the realistic routes. Korean workplaces are hierarchical and formal: seniority governs how you address colleagues and how decisions move, and punctuality and presentation are taken seriously. Expect structure and clear expectations rather than an informal environment.

Whether an internship may be undertaken, and under what visa condition, is determined by Korean immigration regulation and the institution's own arrangements. Verify it officially for your specific pathway rather than assuming.

Employment concentrates in hotels and guest services, airport and passenger services, food and beverage operations, inbound tourism and visitor services, and the events and conference sector in Seoul.

Korean language ability matters considerably. English is used in international hotel operations and parts of the airport sector, but the range of roles open without functional Korean is meaningfully narrower than in Singapore or Malaysia. Employment of foreign nationals is governed by Korean immigration rules set by government, and no provider can guarantee a visa, a job or a salary level.

Living costs in Seoul are high but generally below Singapore, and considerably lower outside the capital. Public transport is excellent and inexpensive. Housing deposits (jeonse and wolse arrangements) work differently from most countries and are worth understanding before you arrive.

Winters are genuinely cold — a real consideration for students from northern India who have not worked through one, particularly in roles involving outdoor or airside work. The pace is fast, work culture is demanding, and social hierarchy is more visible than many students expect.

Entry requirements are set by each institution and vary by programme level. Hospitality, tourism and aviation pathways generally consider academic qualification and, where relevant, Korean or English language ability. Confirm the specific requirement with the institution before planning around it.

South Korea sits in the upper-middle of CARIYA Global's destinations: Seoul is expensive by regional standards though below Singapore, and regional cities are considerably cheaper. Tuition varies by institution and by whether language study is included. Housing deposit structures can require significant money upfront — plan for that specifically.
